Volkswagen AG debuted its new Bulli Concept for America today at the 2011 New York Auto Show. Extremely reminiscent of the classic Microbus and the concept Microbus from 2001, the Bulli features a two-box design that would definitely pin itself against the likes of the Scion xB and the Kia Soul.
The Bulli can seat up to six and because of its shape, feels very spacious and airy. The Bulli also features an infotainment system that’s solely controlled by an Apple iPad.
Power comes from a 114hp electric motor that also produced 199 lb-ft of torque. The results are 0-60 in 11.4 seconds with a top speed of 87 mph. Attached to the electric motor is a lithium-ion battery back that allows the Bulli Concept go a total of 186.4 miles in between charges.
Volkswagen didn’t announce whether they would put it into production. But we don’t see why they shouldn’t because thanks to the Scion xB and Kia Soul, there’s definitely a strong market for a car like this. And its a double-whammy too when considering the Bulli would be the first fully-electric car in its segment.
